FAQ
What is a reverse job fair?
Whereas a standard job fair features tables of employers recruiting employees for their businesses, a reverse job fair switches the roles, allowing job seekers to highlight their interests, strengths, and workplace skills. Each job seeker will have a station with resumes, cover letters, and possible work samples. Employers will be invited to interact with each potential applicant.
What is the purpose of this reverse job fair?
The purpose is threefold. Hiring managers will become more familiar with autistic workers and what they can add to businesses. Autistic job candidates will gain valuable practice talking to employers in a supportive setting. Finally, we hope to see our job seekers field offers or gain knowledge and connections that will help them in their search.
Who is eligible to participate as a job seeker?
Kentucky residents 18 and older who are autistic (or on the spectrum) are invited to apply!
What is the process for job seekers to participate.?
1. Send your inquiry to Bev Harp at baharp2@uky.edu
2. Up to twelve candidates will be invited to participate.
3. The candidates will meet by Zoom with ISAW staff to plan their displays and prepare brief “elevator speeches”. There will be at least one required and two optional prep sessions. ISAW staff will review your resume or help you to create one. We will offer practice interviews and (if wanted) tips on what employers expect to see and hear. We will offer suggestions on what to wear and provide information about where to access business clothing at no to minimal cost. Additionally, we will send newsletters with practical information during the preparation phase.
4. On the day of the event, participants will take their materials to the reverse job fair. Staff will be available to assist you there with anything you need.
What kinds of employers will be there?
This will be determined by the interests of job seekers and proximity to Louisville (though we may have a few from other parts of the state.) We will be inviting employers who have shown interest in hiring autistic workers. As employers are recruited, information about them will be added to this page.
Any interested employer can volunteer for the reverse job fair by emailing Bev at baharp2@uky.edu.
